Former FBI chief James the former director has denied the charges to making false statements to US legislators and hindering a legislative process.

His legal representative entered the response representing him in a US district court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.

Patrick Fitzgerald stated he would attempt to have the case thrown out for multiple reasons including that his the accused, a opponent of former President Trump, was being targeted.

Mr Comey was charged just days after the former president pushed his chief prosecutor to proceed against him.

Judicial Process

During the hearing on mid-week, his attorney the legal representative told the magistrate they planned to present multiple motions to throw out the case before a trial, claiming the government's case was vindictive and that a federal prosecutor was wrongfully designated to take over the case.

The former director's proceedings was first overseen by the original attorney, who stepped down under influence from Trump after his examination into an additional political adversary - New York Attorney General Letitia James - did not succeed to bring criminal charges.

Legal Setting

Mr Comey appeared in optimistic frame of mind as he walked into the courtroom on mid-week, conversing with his attorneys and making jokes. He was accompanied by his spouse, Patrice Failor and offspring Maureen, a US lawyer who the previous administration dismissed.

Upon hearing to the judge recite his rights and the dual charges against him in the courtroom on mid-week, Mr Comey was asked if he understood the allegations.

"Yes your honour. Appreciate it," he told the proceedings.

Previous Events

Mr Comey was the head of the FBI from four years and was fired about a few months into the former president's first term as president. At the moment, he was overseeing an examination into foreign election meddling and whether there were any links between Russia and the election effort.

While in office, James Comey triggered a counter-response from the Democratic party when he declared just immediately preceding the national vote that he was probing Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server. Indictments against Clinton were not pursued, resulting in disapproval from the Republican party as well.

Present Charges

Government attorneys allege the former director gave untrue statements to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being examined about both the email probe as well as the election interference investigation. They say he provided false information to the Senate by stating he had not permitted a person at the agency to release to journalistic entities data about the government examinations.

Prosecutors also accuse Mr Comey of "improperly attempting to sway, block and delay" the legislative group by giving misleading testimony to it.

Individual Responses

In a video the former director shared to his social media after he was charged, he stated he was not guilty and accused the former president of conducting himself like a "autocrat".

"Our household have known for considerable time that there are ramifications to challenging Donald Trump," he stated. "We refuse to live on our knees."
"I'm innocent," he continued. "So let's have a trial."

The charges against James Comey surfaced after Donald Trump posted on online platforms demanding his attorney general, the attorney general, charge James Comey and additional individuals.
