The England head coach voiced his regret that the Three Lions team did not enjoy greater encouragement from the Wembley fans during their impressive 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday night.
The manager was happy to see his side continue their good form, with goals from Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes deciding the contest. But, he was not content with the mood at the national stadium.
“We had limited training days to prepare against a drilled team and we did very well,” the coach remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at the break. We missed the additional goals. There was little noise. We didn’t get any energy back from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you provide in the first quarter? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the squad warranted better encouragement today.”
“I stand by this statement. We cannot do more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I hoped for a little more support in phases where it becomes tough.”
“In the second half, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It could have helped us to recharge, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Away from potentially starting a dispute among fans, Tuchel also created controversy by excluding Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the choice was backed up by Morgan Rogers excelling in the attacking midfield role and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He is what he is,” Tuchel noted. “He is a No 10 and he is vying for his spot.”
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who face Belgium in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, learn from their awful first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this friendly,” Bellamy said. “I need to see where we are. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance gives me motivation.”
Ollie Watkins was taken off at half-time after hitting a goalpost and is a concern when England play Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on Tuesday.
