Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have encountered a variety of interesting creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer lets you play a character that is actually a turd trying to travel to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

How you interact is straightforward: you only need a jump control. Across one hundred fifty challenges, encounter mini-bosses and access a market to buy skins for your poop character.

Time your movements precisely, since one error forces restarting the level. Bounce off floating orbs to hurl yourself to new heights, traverse disappearing platforms, and touch switches to unlock hidden paths. Earn coins and use them on more difficult levels in which gameplay intensifies.

In terms of design, the game boasts neon stages and a killer soundtrack. The simple art featuring moving abstract forms evokes memories of fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though tough to name other games where you are a coiled turd, video games have long included scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme shows up a lot in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly premise, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive recognition, like winning at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the final release scheduled to debut on Steam in the fall.
